It was a cold, but beautifully sunny day yesterday. The sun was just streaming in the bedroom window. I love days like that. Today, however, is a bit warmer, but yucky rainy and very windy. I have quite a few chores to do around the house today, so I guess that’s okay. I have to tidy up the house, oil the furniture, make Whiskey presentable, and finish the pumpkin felt placemats for Thanksgiving dinner (pictures to follow) before company arrives. Now that I look on that list…yikes! Wish me luck!
Anyway, my sister-in-law is coming down from Maine today and my best friend and her wonderful fiance are coming up from DC. They both have dogs, so we’ll have three dogs running around, playing and probably getting into some sort of trouble. Should be interesting! :) Whiskey is very excited and can’t wait for them to arrive.

To tell you the truth, I can’t wait for them to arrive either.

Just a couple weeks ago, I left my 9-5 to freelance full time. I worked with so many wonderful people that it was really hard to leave without feeling a bit choked up. The people on my floor gave me these beautiful flowers

and the staff I supervised (whom I miss terribly) gave me this gorgeous 3-year old bonsai tree

complete with a little Buddha.

Their reasoning behind the tree? They said that bonsai trees represent tranquility, love, luck, hope, and success and they couldn’t think of a better way to express their wishes for me and my new endeavor. Can you think of anything more touching than that? Now every time I look at it I think of them and how truly wonderful they are. I can’t think of a better gift.
Thank you.

I’ve been working on some new shibori projects that I’m hoping to have on Etsy shortly. I’ve been pleating and pole wrapping a lot lately, enjoying the calming repetitiveness of the practice. Isn’t it nice to make something with your hands in delectable silence? Sometimes even having music on interrupts the process. There’s something to be said about being able to hear your puppy snoring softly under the table.

I’ve also been working on some flat scarves and this one in particular turned out very nice:

It’s bronze with a little bit of blue and taupe thrown into the mix. I love the way the pattern turned out. It’s nice and warm too when you put it on. I’ve found that wearing a silk scarf under your thick winter wool scarf keeps the wool from feeling scratchy against your skin and it also gives you something beautiful to wear around your neck indoors after you’ve taken your heavier scarf off. That way you stay warm during the dinner party without looking like you’re impatient to leave at any moment!
I’ll keep you posted on the progress of my Etsy shop. I hope to update it soon.
By the way, I love this!

We took Whiskey over to Good Harbor Beach yesterday and she had a blast! It was a beautiful evening with a gorgeous sunset.
She plays this game where she runs to Kurt and then runs back to me and then runs back to Kurt. She just flies towards you at this incredible speed. She’s so cute! I think I captured just how silly she looks. She doesn’t even have one paw on the ground!

She played with a bunch of other dogs and people, while Kurt and I enjoyed the beautiful evening.

Isn’t this view just spectacular?
